About the project

Dikodi partnered with a major Telecom company in Sweden in Q2 2024 to optimize cloud costs and improve their FinOps practices. The company faced rising cloud infrastructure expenses, driven by a large-scale environment supporting various product teams. However, there was a significant disconnect between the central Cloud Team and the Product Teams, resulting in inefficiencies and missed opportunities for cost savings.

Dikodi was engaged to address these issues by streamlining cloud cost management and enhancing collaboration across teams. Our goal was to improve resource optimization, increase visibility into savings opportunities, and align stakeholders around a common cost optimization strategy. By bridging the gap between teams, we created a unified framework for cloud cost management that focused on maximizing efficiency and delivering financial benefits.

Usage Optimization Strategy

Dikodi introduced strategies for optimizing resource usage, including Termination, Rightsizing, and Scheduling. These initiatives, along with the use of cost-effective cloud regions for development and QA environments, resulted in significant savings.

Results

Dikodi’s approach saved the Telecom company $665.7K in the short term, with additional future savings of $2.43M identified. The introduction of automated email recommendations, comprehensive training, and improved collaboration led to a 10.4% savings and 250 hours of saved effort annually. By optimizing cloud resource usage and fostering cross-team collaboration, Dikodi helped the company achieve long-term cost efficiencies.
